Optical calcite
Optical calcite (also called Iceland spar) is a particularly clear variety of the mineral calcite.
These cleavage crystals have what is known as double refraction. This means that everything
lying beneath the crystals appears 'doubled'.
Because of these properties, optical calcite is used, among other things, in technical applications.
