Pyrite sun, large, 1 piece**

Pyrite sun, large

These pyrite suns are approximately 6.5 - 7.3 cm in size.

A pyrite sun is a pyrite or marcasite that has crystallized as a flat disk.

There are only a few localities worldwide where pyrite suns can be found.

These specimens originate from the now-closed mine in the town of Sparta in Illinois/USA —

possibly the last pyrite suns available.

These approximately 320 million-year-old pyrite suns formed in layers of bituminous coal and shale.

There are various theories regarding the exact formation of pyrite suns. One states that the pyrite replaced previously

existing fossils, while the other assumes that the pyrite crystallized deformed accordingly by pressure and heat.

Pyrite suns like the ones you can buy here are interesting minerals and sought-after healing stones.
