Nellite - a rough stone related to tiger's eye that has a very beautiful luster.
Tiger's eye quartz - Nellite - Pietersite
During our last South Africa buying trip, a very interesting stone caught our eye.
This material has the color of tiger's eye or hawk's eye and partly contains white quartz.
The locals call the stone Nellite, but it also meets the specifications of pietersite (even if
expressed somewhat atypically).
In places, this Nellite shimmers extremely strongly with a greasy luster, but does not have the fibers typical of tiger's eye.
First attempts to cut and polish Nellite have led to very beautiful results - Nellite takes a very good polish.
The pieces are approx. 5 - 20 cm in size.
Occasionally, slightly larger and smaller pieces may be included!
